At our offices, the focus we have is on dental health. At home, your goal is to maintain dental hygiene. In short, we will provide you with every tool and resource you need to ensure your teeth look good and are healthy. However, we also teach you what you need to do to maintain oral health at home.
What Is Dental Hygiene?
Our recommendations to prevent and reverse any oral health problems include several steps. At home, we encourage you to do the following:
- Brush your teeth at least two times per day using a soft to medium bristle brush. Brushing one time after each meal is even better.
- Use floss after each brushing to remove particles stuck between the teeth that brushing cannot reach.
- Use an alcohol-based mouthwash to kill bacteria and to keep gum disease under control.
When Should You Come in to the Dentist?
Visiting our office one time every six months is your goal. When you come in, we will take x-rays if needed. We will do a professional cleaning as well. This process helps to reduce any plaque build-up on your teeth. We will also tell you about any signs of gum disease and help with any problems you may have.
What About Cosmetic Improvement?
Dental hygiene helps to maintain your oral health. This means ensuring your gums, teeth and other structures in the mouth are in good health. Keep in mind, poor gum health has been linked to heart disease and strokes. This is important.
However, we also offer cosmetic dentistry services. There is no reason you should suffer with a smile that is not perfect. We will make sure to discuss any services right for you, but you can always tell us what your needs are.
Schedule an appointment to discuss your dental hygiene. We are happy to answer questions and provide any advice you need.
